In 2018 Brisbane will be home to the world's tallest engineered timber office building.

Taller wooden buildings exist but Lendlease's 25 King, now underway at the $2.9B RNA Showgrounds redevelopment site, is touted as the tallest engineered-timber office tower on Earth.

“25 King is set to become the tallest and largest engineered timber office building in the world which is a wonderful achievement for the Brisbane Showgrounds precinct,” Lendlease Managing Director Mark Menhinnitt said.

The project is the latest in growing line of engineered wood towers in Australia using solutions such as cross-laminated timber (CLT). CLT, layers of wood glued together under high pressure with the grain of each perpendicular to the one before and glulum - glued-laminated timber - will be used to erect the 45 metre tall structure.

Once completed 7,900 square metres of office space will be available for lease.

25 King will be Lendlease's fifth engineered timber building in Australia.
