15/04/2013 11:15 am

The ACT Chief Minister Katy Gallagher has launched The City Plan project which aims to transform the City and guide future development in the heart of Canberra. The City Plan will help decide the overall direction of central Canberra for the next few years.

The plan aims to unlock the potential of Canberra's CBD and better integrate it with public transport, residential buildings, surrounding parklands and educational institutions in the City.

The City Plan will seek to address:

  • what buildings are important for the City role and identity
  • whether London Circuit can be the main city boulevarde
  • better links to Lake Burley Griffin and other national areas
  • improved design of and links between public spaces
  • improved pedestrian movement around the City
  • transport into and around the City, including light rail
  • parameters for a parking strategy
  • possible sites for new residential developments
  • possible sites for iconic buildings
  • how to make it easier to do business
  • parameters for building renewal and redevelopment to promote growth and sustainability

Consultation on The City Plan closes 17 May 2013.
