Adelaide ParklandThe parklands surrounding the upgraded Adelaide Oval will get a $9m facelift, which is expected to be completed by the middle of 2015.

South Australian Infrastructure Minister Stephen Mullighan said the cost would be met from $30 million allocated for the oval redevelopment by the former federal government.

"The improvements people will notice will extend from the eastern grandstand right around to Adelaide Oval number two," he said.

"I congratulate the approach of the Adelaide City Council, the Parklands Authority and the SMA (Stadium Management Authority) to make sure that we're delivering the best for the parklands."

There is a wider plan to upgrade the entire Torrens riverfront precinct over the next couple of decades, including:

  • extending the riverbank promenade to link with the new Royal Adelaide Hospital across the current rail lines next to North Terrace.
  • New food outlets are planned along the banks, including near Jolleys Boathouse, and nearby Kintore Avenue is earmarked for widening.
  • Other projects in the planning are a redevelopment of the Festival Centre plaza and establishing a world music centre.
  • A swimming pool also is planned on the northern banks of the Torrens.
