In 2015, the New South Wales government launched the Home Sites Program, in which 10,000 new home sites in Sydney will be released by the government over the next four years.  The program was launched in order to provide a more affordable housing supply that will support the booming city's growing population.  The Premier instructed UrbanGrowth NSW to double the number to 20,000 new home sites. The greater Sydney metropolitan area through the southern highlands to the lower Hunter fall within the ambit of the program.

The program is delivering a diverse range of home sites, from dwelling lots, townhouses and terrace sites, to apartments and apartment sites which contributes to Sydney’s diverse housing mix, Mr Pitchford said.

New home sites are counted as part of the program upon release of a site into the market through UrbanGrowth NSW’s existing land holdings or put out to tender as wholesale lots for the private sector to complete.  According to UrbanGrowth NSW Chief Executive David Pitchford, 10,427 home sites are already part of the program and 7 months ahead of schedule.
