QLD’s Planning Reforms Moving Ahead

QLD Draft Planning BillThe Queensland State Government is pressing ahead with its reforms, “to create the best planning system in Australia”, with the introduction of the Planning and Development Bill and the Planning and Environment Court Bill to the Parliament of Queensland.

The bills will replace the Sustainable Planning Act 2009 to create a clear transparent and easy-to-navigate planning system.

Key changes include:

  • new decision rules,
  • new assessment streams,
  • increased flexibility and reduced risk in applications and
  • changing approvals.

These reforms have the potential to facilitate an increase development across the state and provide greater certainty for developers and investors.
