rocksThe Department of Planning and Environment is asking for community feedback on a redevelopment proposal at the Rocks by Golden Age and Hanna The Rocks Pty Ltd.

The proposal is seeking approval for new homes, shops and car parking spaces at 85 Harrington Street and 68-72 Gloucester Street, The Rocks. The works include:

  • demolition of the ‘Harrington Court’ building at 85 Harrington Street
  • external and internal works to facilitate the re-use of existing heritage buildings at 68-72 Gloucester Street, known as ‘Bakers Terraces’
  • excavation to provide three basement levels containing 95 car parking spaces
  • construction of six storey and nine/ten storey mixed use buildings containing a total of 64 residential apartments, 1921 square metres of commercial floor space and 753 square metres of retail floor space
  • public domain works including a new East-West pedestrian link, publicly accessible lift and public plaza.

The proposal is also seeking a variation to the Sydney Cove Redevelopment Authority Scheme to amend the specified building envelope for the site and an increase in the maximum heights of buildings permitted on the site.

The existing office building at Harrington Court was purchased by Golden Age for $50 million in 2014. The proposal seeks a change to the maximum building height controls to allow a development up to 50m tall. The completed development will contain 64 apartments, as well as commercial and retail floor space.
