NSW Premier Baird appoints Rob Stokes as his New Planning Minister

Pittwater MP Rob Stokes takes on the NSW Planning portfolio.

rob stokesNSW Premier Mike Baird has announced his new cabinet and ministry. Rob Stokes has been promoted to the Planning Minister position, replacing Pru Goward who has taken on the newly created ministry of Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault and continues as Minister for Women.

According the Planning Institute of Australia, Stokes is no stranger to planning issues. "He served as Environment and Heritage Minister and Assistant Minister for planning  in the previous Baird government. He was also NSW Parliamentary Secretary for Renewable Energy in the O Farrell government.  Last year he spoke at the PIA NSW Conference leaving no one in any doubt that he was across his subject."

Before entering public life, Stokes worked as a policy advisor to the Liberal Opposition Leader, John Brogden and as a environmental lawyer.

In other planning related portfolios:

  • Mark Speakman has been appointed as the new Minister for the Environment, Minister for Heritage and Assistant Minister for Planning.
  • Gladys Berejiklian has done a swap with Andrew Constance to become the first female Treasurer of NSW, with Constance taking Transport and Infrastructure.
  • Duncan Gay and Paul Toole have retained Roads, and Local Government respectively.
  • The Government will no longer have portfolios for the Regions. Instead there are now Parliamentary Secretaries serving the Regions.
