Mosman Heads Top 100 List

Mosman retains its status as the nation’s mega-suburb for sales according to the list of the top 100 suburbs compiled by RP Data, despite the merchant banking industry still to return to its boom-time buying habits.

Some 622 sales in Mosman on Sydney’s lower north shore last year grossed $951 million, easily beating off Melbourne’s Brighton, where 421 vendors grossed $639 million, according to RP Data. Toorak in Melbourne was in third spot, with $520 million in sales from 287 sales.

In Mosman houses had a $2.49 million median, Brighton at $1.76 million, and Toorak’s house median was $2.83 million.

The RP Data list outlines the top 100 suburbs across the country based on the gross value of combined house and unit sales.

RP Data's Head of Research Tim Lawless (@timlawless) noted that more than half of the suburbs on the 2011 list show a median house value higher than $1 million.

As a sign of how hard hit South East QLD has had post GFC, Surfers Paradise remains the top 10, but has slipped from the number two position fiver years ago.
