Hunter’s Point South

New York City is seeking proposals from developers for Phase 2 of the Hunter's Point South middle-class housing project on Long Island City, Queens as ground is broken on Phase 1 0f the project.

Phase 2 will be built along the East River between Borden and 54th avenue at the southern tip of Long Island City. The request for proposals calls for 1,000 new apartments, at least half of which must be made available for middle- and moderate-income families.

Crains reports, that the first phase attracted a number of the city's top developers, including Douglaston Development, the Durst Organization, Jonathan Rose Cos. and AvalonBay. Ultimately, the Related Cos., in partnership with Monadnock Development and Phipps Houses, won the right to build 925 units and a new school and retail spaces.

Phase 2 is located on an 110,000-square-foot site in the middle of the public land, immediately south of Related's plots. In addition to the apartments, the project provides for 28,000 square feet of new retail.
