City of PerthThe City of Perth this week welcomed the Barnett Government’s decision to reject the Local Government Advisory Board reform proposal for Perth and commit to creating a City of Perth Act.

“Premier Barnett and Minister Simpson have made a strong stand to ensure all Western Australians have a strong and effective capital city,” Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said.

“The Barnett Government has acknowledged the critical role our capital city plays in driving economic growth and delivering prosperity for all Western Australians.

“It has seized this once in a lifetime opportunity to shape a capital city that will shine on the world stage.

“We can now focus on creating a strong capital city for the people of Western Australia – a vision the City shares with the State Government.”

Ms Scaffidi said the City is committed to working collaboratively with the State Government in the months ahead.

“We look forward to understanding how the Government intends to address the challenges posed for all parties in the proposed merger with the City of Vincent,” she said.

“We will work collaboratively with the government and ensure our stakeholders are made aware of the implications of such a merger.

“Our shared goal remains creating a stronger capital city for all Western Australians.”
