Brisbane’s Future Tallest Apartment Tower Approved

Brisbane's future tallest apartment tower in one step closer after council approved the 90-storey building yesterday.

Billbergia and AMP Capital’s 222 Margaret Street building, to be named Skytower, will rise to Brisbane’s tallest allowable height of 274m. Eventually towering over Meriton’s Infinity tower (249m) and Soleil (243m) towers, Riparian Plaza (250m) and the Queensland ­government’s under construction 1 William Street (258m).

The $1 billion development includes the 90-storey Margaret Street tower and the adjacent 131m, ­42-storey hotel and apartment building at 111 Mary Street.

Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said the skyscraper would be a stunning, modern architectural landmark. Construction would provide 800 jobs.

“It is a very high calibre and exciting project that will further define Brisbane as a new-world city,” Mr Quirk said.

“Across the CBD there are ­already a number of new developments underway which are contributing to the evolution of our city as an economic and ­commercial hub and these ­towers will add to it.”
