Auburn City Council is the local government authority is made up of the following suburbs: Auburn, Berala, Lidcombe, Newington, Regents Park, Rookwood, Silverwater, Sydney Olympic Park, and Wentworth Point. Auburn City is predominantly a residential area, with some industrial activity concentrated in Lidcombe and Silverwater. Auburn is one of the most culturally diverse local government areas in Australia. The diversity of the community is a key asset and forms part of Auburn's unique identity. Auburn is expected to face considerable population growth in the next 10 years. Current projections indicate Auburn City's population will exceed 98,000 people by 2022/23. Much of the increase is expected to occur in Wentworth Point, Sydney Olympic Park and at the former Lidcombe Hospital site. Auburn's geographic location in Western Sydney, in close proximity to Parramatta, and being well connected to the major road and rail network, is a contributing factor to the cities rate of growth.
